#ThrowbackThursday Dinosaur Auntie loved playing with Daddysaur’s typewriter when she was a child. It made her feel like a grown-up “typing” away. Of course, she didn’t really know how to type. And most of the time, her tiny fingers would get stuck in the big gaps between the keys. Just like the dinosaur in the photo, with his legs trapped and stuck in between the keys!

To Dinosaur Auntie, the typewriter was a fascinating toy. It was so thrilling to see so many button-like keys that she could press to her heart’s content. The biggest key was the space bar and it could make parts of the typewriter move! It was also a musical machine that could make all these amazing ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ding sounds. And alphabets that she recognised would appear like magic. And not to forget the sheer joy of rolling in and out fresh crisp white sheets of paper.
But to Daddysaur, the typewriter was a work tool for survival. He bought it when he was 18 or 19 years old, which makes the typewriter 62 years old this year. He remembers buying it from a little shop in Middle Road and that it costs more than one hundred dollars, which was considered a fortune then.
To get a job in the past, you had to know how to type and to type fast. He went for classes to learn how to speed type. After months of self-practice, he sat for the test and got a certificate from the LCC (London Chamber of Commerce?) for typing at a speed of xxx wpm (words per minute).
Dinosaur Auntie is very impressed by Daddysaur’s typing prowess and achievement! Because after half a lifetime of typing on the computer keyboard, Dinosaur Auntie can only type with 2 fingers.
